IYCS Africa Wraps Up 10th Pan-African Council with Focus on Sustainable Development

The International Young Christian Students (IYCS) Africa concluded its 10th Pan-African Council in Kabgayi, Rwanda on October 11, 2015. The week-long conference focused on the theme “Our Faith, Our Future Towards Sustainable Development in Africa.”

Reflections on Faith and Sustainable Development

Discussions centered on the role of young African Christians in promoting sustainable development on the continent. Participants explored how their faith can guide them in working towards a better future for Africa.

New Leadership Elected

The Council also elected new leadership for the 2015-2019 mandate. Miss Agatha Sagne from Senegal and Mr. Odongo Innocent from Uganda were chosen as Coordinators.

Rwanda Takes the Lead on International Representation

JEC Rwanda President Jean Claude Izabayo was elected to represent JEC Africa at the international level, signifying Rwanda’s growing role within the IYCS Africa community.

Pan-African Ambassadors Announced

The Council concluded by announcing the new Pan-African Ambassadors: Prince Ermès (Master Panaf) and Raïssa Viens Lumierre (Miss Panaf). These ambassadors will play a vital role in promoting IYCS Africa’s mission and initiatives across the continent.

Gratitude for Collaboration

The closing remarks expressed sincere appreciation to all the JECists (IYCS members), animators (IYCS mentors), and chaplains who participated from the 34 JEC Africa member countries. The spirit of collaboration and shared purpose was a highlight of the conference.

The 10th Pan-African Council marked a significant moment for IYCS Africa, bringing together young Christians from across the continent to discuss their faith and its role in shaping a sustainable future for Africa.
