Empowering Faith in Action for a Sustainable Future: Reflections from the 37th UYCS National Council Meeting in Uganda

On May 1, 2025, as the world honored Saint Joseph the Worker, the Patron Saint of the Young Christian Students (YCS) Movement, Uganda played host to a remarkable gathering of young Catholic leaders. The 37th Uganda Young Christian Students (UYCS) National Council Meeting, held at Bishop Cipriano Kihangire Secondary School Bbiina, was a powerful testament to the strength and vision of youth in faith-driven leadership. The event, themed “Empowering Faith in Action for a Sustainable Future,” brought together YCS representatives from Uganda, South Sudan, Kenya, and Rwanda, fostering unity, collaboration, and dialogue on faith-driven change.

A Gathering of Leaders and Visionaries

The meeting provided a dynamic space for dialogue, elections, leadership presentations, and faith-based reflections on key issues affecting young Christian students. It was an honor for YCS Rwanda to be represented by our National Secretary, Mr. Alexandre, who was invited as a distinguished guest. His presence affirmed the solidarity between YCS movements across Africa, strengthening ties for future collaborations.

A Call to Action for YCS Leaders Across Africa

The 37th UYCS National Council Meeting was more than just an annual gathering—it was a reaffirmation of the transformative power of faith in action. As young Christian leaders, the challenge before us is clear: to move beyond discussions and embody change in our communities, education systems, and nations.

For YCS Rwanda, this event was a valuable opportunity to strengthen partnerships, share experiences, and learn from fellow leaders across Africa. It is our hope that future collaborations will continue to ignite the spirit of youth leadership and sustainable faith-driven impact.

As we move forward, let us embrace Saint Joseph the Worker’s example—dedicated, steadfast, and faithful in our mission—so that our actions today may lay the foundation for a brighter, faith-driven future.
