A MEMORABLE DAY OF YCS PROMISES AT KARAMBO-WELCOMING NEW MEMBERS WITH FAITH AND JOY

On Sunday, February 16, 2025, the Young Christian Students (YCS) movement in JECRWANDA experienced a remarkable and spiritually uplifting event as we welcomed 57 new members from the Main Group of E.S. Sancta Maria KARAMBO. This significant ceremony, filled with faith, joy, and commitment, was a testament to the ever-growing spirit of YCS in Rwanda.

The day began with a solemn Holy Mass led by Father Bursar Jean Pierre, setting the tone for a spiritually enriching experience. In his sermon, Father Jean Pierre drew a profound connection between the life of a YCS member and that of a Christian. He emphasized the importance of the YCS motto: “See, Judge, and Act”, urging members to apply this principle in their daily lives. He explained that before committing to anything, we must first see and recognize it, then judge its value in our lives—both as human beings, YCS members, and Christians—before taking action accordingly. His words resonated deeply with both the new and existing members, reinforcing the importance of discernment in decision-making.

Following the Holy Mass, the atmosphere shifted into one of celebration and joyful animation. The YCS members, including the newly inducted ones, engaged in lively singing, acting, and entertaining performances. The energy was infectious, and despite the scorching sun, everyone participated enthusiastically. It was not just the members of E.S. Sancta Maria KARAMBO who graced the occasion, but also visitors from other Main Groups such as Petit Séminaire RWESERO, BUKURE TSS, and their Elder Brothers and Sisters from various universities, making it a truly unifying event.

As the celebrations continued in the main hall, the program was packed with memorable moments. There were song presentations, Certificate awards for finalists and former committee members, speeches, and a heartwarming session of sharing meals and drinks. These activities not only strengthened the bond among members but also provided an opportunity to reflect on the values and responsibilities of being part of YCS. The event was further enriched by the presence of Mr. MUHIRWA Alexandre, the General Secretary of YCS Rwanda, who delivered an insightful address to the students.

In his speech, Mr. MUHIRWA Alexandre urged students to live their lives in accordance with both the school’s rules and the principles of YCS. He encouraged them to draw inspiration from Jesus Christ by integrating the Gospel into their daily routines. His words served as a reminder that being a YCS member is not just about belonging to a group, but about living a life of integrity, service, and faith.
Among the visitors, there was a former KARAMBO student, Miss Laura INEMA, who served as the YCS President from 2023 to 2024. In her speech, she reminded the audience that being a YCS member is not limited to secondary school but is a lifelong commitment. She encouraged members to continue supporting the YCS family even after completing their studies, emphasizing that their involvement should extend beyond school life. Miss Laura also warmly welcomed the new members, assuring them of continued support whenever needed and urging them to love and uphold the YCS community with dedication and enthusiasm.

The event concluded with an inspiring closing speech by Father Jean Pierre, who is himself a devoted YCS member. He expressed his gratitude for the dedication shown by YCS members at E.S. Sancta Maria KARAMBO, commending them for their ability to do the right things at the right time, in the right place. One of the most touching moments was when he acknowledged the charitable efforts of the YCS members, particularly their initiative to support an elderly man in their community who had lost his wife. In a remarkable act of compassion, the students helped cover the school fees, books, uniforms, and other academic needs of his two children, who were also present at the event alongside their father. This act of kindness highlighted the true essence of YCS—faith in action.

As the sun set on this remarkable day, it was clear that the YCS Promises ceremony at KARAMBO was not just an event but a transformative experience. The newly welcomed members left with a renewed sense of purpose, and the existing members were reminded of the importance of service, faith, and community. This day will be remembered as a shining example of what it truly means to be a Young Christian Student: to see with clarity, judge with wisdom, and act with love.
